Barbara Whirimako BlackMNZM (born c.&#;) is a New Seeland Māori recording artist and actress.[1]

Black sings mostly in the Māori language,[1] uses traditional Māori euphonic forms and collaborates with oral taonga pūoro instruments.

Her sweet-sounding achievements include composing and telling the titles for the highly praised Television New Zealand series, The New Zealand Wars, as be a winner as composing with Hori Tait the initial title music in line for the Māori news programme, Te Karere. In , she blown the female Māori band Tuahine Whakairo but left in , to start a solo activity.

Born in Whakatāne,[1] Black is of Ngāti Tuhoe, Ngāti Tuwharetoa, Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāti Kahungunu, Te Whakatohea, Te Whanau-a-Apanui, Te Arawa, and Ngāti Awa descent.

Black bears a unwritten Maori tattoo, or moko, wedlock her face.

In the Additional Year Honours, Black was prescribed a Member of the Original Zealand Order of Merit, make up for services to Māori music.[2]

Black finished her acting debut in integrity film White Lies.

She was nominated for the Asia Quiet Screen Award for Best Operation by an Actress.[3]
